چکیده

Abstract Water scarcity and soil erosion are the main constraints small holder farmers facing in Tigray, northern most part of Ethiopia. Both very high low precipitation can cause a damage to agriculture which is case semi-arid regions like Tigray. While too little rainfall cannot support growth crops resulting crop failure, short but intense also causes runoff thereby washing away essential nutrients. Installation different micro/macro-catchment rainwater harvesting address both water if they properly designed prior construction. This research was intended develop methodology for identifying suitable (rwh) sites by using weighted overlay analysis. It utilizes Ahp (analytical hierarchy process) as effective multi-criterion decision-making tool eastern Tigray at Kilte Awlaelo district on an area 1001 km 2 . method chosen because it simple use, cost effective, flexible widely adopted. Physical, hydrological, climate socio-economic aspects were taken into account during criteria selection. The result indicated four suitability classes with 8.74% highly areas (85.25 ), 56% (550.75 30.8% moderately (303.2 ) 4.46% less (43.87 ). produced rwh map validated ground truth google earth pro field trip study site. In situ ex including bench terraces, wells, exclosure identified visit that verified model. Finally, depending weight scale sub-criteria matched each areas, micro-catchment macro-catchment techniques recommended. be utilized practitioners, local foreign organizations working conservation programmes policy-makers their early planning stages.

Potential Rainwater Harvesting Improvement Using Advanced Remote Sensing Applications

The amount of water on earth is the same and only the distribution and the reallocation of water forms are altered in both time and space. To improve the rainwater harvesting a better understanding of the hydrological cycle is mandatory. Clouds are major component of the hydrological cycle; therefore, clouds distribution is the keystone of better rainwater harvesting. Remote sensing technology ...

Suitable Site Selection for Rainwater Harvesting for Drinking and Agricultural Purposes using Hub Coating Problem (PR Algorithm)

Surface water resulted from rainfall-runoff responses in a basin is a potential water source that if it is managed properly can be useful to demand secure. In this study, hub coating algorithm (PR) and geographic information system (GIS) were used to identify areas with potential in Birjand plain for rainwater harvesting. The weight of 18 decision-making indices was calculated and prioritized u...

Remote sensing for urban heat and cool islands evaluation in semi-arid areas

Cities are experiencing rapid population growth and consequently extensive urbanization. Land-use/land-cover change is one of the important elements worldwide, which significantly affect the environment. This study aims to describe the emergence of urban heat and cool islands as a result of changes in land-use/land-cover. Land surface temperature over a 32-year period in Isfahan city, Iran was ...

Risk Analysis Approach to Rainwater Harvesting Systems

Urban rainwater reuse preserves water resources and promotes sustainable development in rapidly growing urban areas. The efficiency of a large number of urban water reuse systems, operating under different climate and demand conditions, is evaluated here on the base of a new risk analysis approach. Results obtained by probability analysis (PA) indicate that maximum efficiency in low demanding s...
